Switch premiered at The Northern School of Contempory Dance in Leeds, September 2009
Switch is about change, choice, breaking the mould, embodying new rituals and living again. It draws inspiration from ancient practices and their relevance to the contemporary sphere within which we exist, flipping on its head the notion of tradition and the notion of the ancient.
Set in a black and white space, this is an exciting collaborative work by ACE’s directors Gail and Ian Parmel with choreographers Douglas Thorpe (Phoenix Dance Company) and Andile Sotiya. An exciting blend of sophisticated dance, music and visuals, accompanied by a robust and agile cast of six international and UK based dancers, a live musician and a world class composer.
Six agile dancers push themselves to their physical limits in a sophisticated mix of dance, music and awe inspiring visuals.
Dancers: Sade Alleyne // Sara Enrich Bertran // Grace Hann // Nick Keegan // Nick Peak // Lisa Rowley // Laura Vanhulle
The Double Bill
'Switch' Choreographed by Artistic Director Gail Parmel and dancers // Movement collaboration by Andile Sotiya
A highly technical, pure movement piece. Dancers portray a circuit board; charging from a power source and transferring energy between each another.
'Listen' Choreographed by Douglas Thorpe with Artistic collaboration by Gail Parmel
An unsettling portrayal of modern day war, with impressive fast and precise phrases and eastern style ultra-controlled movement and mime. ‘Listen’ explores post-traumatic stress, flashbacks and power struggles within military and home relationships
